If you’re looking for a way to upscale your creative practice, there is a promising new initiative on offer that is available to anyone around the world.

The Creative Communities Learning Lab offers free, self-led courses developed by the British Council, in collaboration with Creative Friction and Makerspace Manila — two creative workspaces from London and Manila, respectively.

The courses are designed to reflect on lessons and insights from creative hubs and communities in Southeast Asia and the United Kingdom. As the pandemic raises challenges brought on by the closure of physical shared spaces and the push towards remote working, there is an increased focus on stories of resilience and creative adaptation. Among the Filipino creative hubs who advised for this project were MUNI, North Luzon Cinema Guild, and SIKAP.

Three themes cut across the platform’s three courses: engaging and maintaining online communities; monetizing your creative services, and; online skills training.

“It was wonderful to have worked with experts from Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, the

Philippines, and the UK. The diversity of their insights and experience has made Creative

Communities Learning Lab a truly unique learning resource. We invite creative professionals

across the world to take advantage of this opportunity and access the courses,” said Julia

Davies, British Council Interim Regional Arts Director, East Asia.
