Women’s Month deserves more than just lip service. If you’re at a loss on how to laud and support women in a more meaningful way, we recommend that you add these events and activities to your March agenda.
1. Watch women-centric films
Catch some of the most acclaimed Filipino movies that have women characters at their core, thanks to screenings organized by Intramuros, in collaboration with the Film Development Council of the Philippines. Even better news? You can watch these films for free.

Starring the late great Jaclyn Jose in the role that won her a Best Actress Award at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, the Brillante Mendoza-directed Ma’Rosa follows a poor family that gets caught up in small-time drug-dealing. It’s a gritty and squalid depiction of systemic corruption and the lengths a mother would endure to feed her family.

An opera singer grieving the loss of her voice. A kid navigating his mother’s hometown after growing up in the city. Somehow, these two lost souls find each other and discover a way forward in Peque Gallaga and Lore Reyes’ Sonata. The film is also a love letter to Negros Occidental, with the province’s lilting dialect, sugar fields, railroad tracks, and old mansions providing a charming audiovisual backdrop to the heartwarming story. Sonata stars the late great Cherie Gil and Chino Jalandoni.

A pop culture- and smartphone-obsessed teen from the Suludnon tribe in Iloilo has been anticipating a TV star’s visit to her school. However, as the granddaughter of the clan’s last chanter, she’s also responsible for helping her Lolo Ramon complete the last of their community’s 12 epics before he succumbs to dementia—and before the tribe’s chanting tradition vanishes for good. A comedy-drama about the struggle to uphold cultural preservation in the face of modernity, The Chanters is directed by James Robin Mayo and stars Jally Nae Gilbaliga and Romulo Caballero.
2. Visit an exhibit that gives you a deeper look into women’s experiences

Presented by the Ateneo de Manila University’s Sanggunian: Commission on Anti-Sexual Misconduct and Violence, Sanggunian: Commission on Gender Equality, and Spaces for Women’s Arts and Narrative, Mulat: With Open Eyes is an exhibit that features the works of feminist Atenean students. Centered on the notion of recognition, it takes on women’s all-too-familiar experience of seeing, as well as their need to be seen for who they are. The featured art pieces are intended to function both as mirrors and windows into the lived experiences of womanhood, in hopes that viewers can realize the power of their gaze and work on changing the intentions behind it for the better.
3. Immerse yourself in works penned by women

This bookstore, which also functions as a gallery, carries independently published work from local writers. This Women’s Month, Everything’s Fine is proud to display its shelves stocked with books written by women, from Lilia Quindoza Santiago’s Kritika Feminista to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s We Should All Be Feminists. Find a thought-provoking tome to browse through, buy, and reflect on. Check out the exhibit Creative Non-fiction while you’re there, too, and relish the combination of books and fine art printmaking.
4. Get your body moving with feminine sensuality

Build and master your technique in creating fluid movements and projecting powerful expressions of feminine grace and strength.
5. Enjoy music and art made by women creatives in Wanderland

March 22 - 23, 2025
Filinvest City Events Grounds, Alabang, Muntinlupa City
Learn more about the festival by visiting www.wanderlandfest.com

In its 10th year, Wanderland Festival stages its signature combination of music, art, and a creative commune by bringing back some of the festival’s favorite artists and introducing attendees to new ones. Groove to the Pinoy soul sounds of Kat Agarrado and the rest of Sinosikat?, discover more of Singaporean artist Regina Song’s pop-R&B music, chill with Thai musician mindfreakkk’s ‘80s city pop-inflected ditties, and basically have a great time watching a bunch of local and international artists perform live. In between sets, spark your imagination by observing Filipina artists and graphic designers Jill Arteche and Ross Du create illustrations live and checking out the art installations onsite.
