The country's first government-led content and community platform for local creative industries, CREATEPhilippines, in collaboration with Filipinos Advancing Creative Education (FACE), will gather the local creative scene in time for the Philippine Creative Industries Month (PCIM) in September.

With the mutual objective of exporting culture through creativity, the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), though CREATEPhilippines, and FACE signed a deal to champion Filipino heritage through various creative outputs. In attendance during the event were FACE Executive Director Lyle del Mundo and Creative Director Boom Dayupay. CITEM was represented by Deputy Executive Director Ma. Lourdes Mediran, Creative Services Division Officer-in-Charge Katrina Ledesma-Muan, and Project Officers SJ Nacino, Vea Santos, and Sophie Gomez.

The country is poised to become a leading creative economy in Asia and the top Creative Economy in ASEAN by 2030, according to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). The creative sector plays a crucial role in driving national development and economic growth.

Embarking on a creative mission

Parallel to the month-long celebration of PCIM, a 10–day Creative Immersion Tour is designed to uncover local practices in various sectors: dance, culinary practices, fashion, music, visual arts, TV, and film. The tour encourages Filipinos in the diaspora to go back and experience the local creative scene.

About 300-500 participants from the diaspora are expected to join the tour.

“Sharing knowledge between the creatives from the diaspora and here locally increases our footprint globally to be a creative powerhouse,” del Mundo said. He added that Filipinos abroad are eager to go back to the country and meet local creatives, blur the lines caused by distance, and collaborate for the creative scene to flourish.

Included in the tour is a Creative summit on September 24th, a gathering for Filipino and Filipino-American creatives through a series of thought-provoking panel discussions. CREATEPhilippines will bring added value to this activity through a Business Mentorship session, where local creatives can seize the opportunity to have one-on-one discussions with different international Filipino creatives that FACE will be bringing in.

The affair will conclude with a Creative Networking activity on September 25th, which links creatives to spark business, conversations, and collaborations. This networking session is open to all creatives regardless of domains and profession.

Organizations interested in supporting this activity may contact the CREATEPhilippines Secretariat at createph@citem.com.ph. Filipino creatives who are interested to be part of these events, must stay tuned by following CREATEPhilippines on its social media pages on Facebook, Instagram, and X.
