No figurine has as good of a grasp on pop culture the way Funko Pops do. Whether you are an avid collector or a casual enthusiast or a bystander, it’s quite impossible to miss them: about 4 inches tall with square-shaped heads, dark eyes, no pupils, no mouth, and donned in a certain character’s most iconic clothing. These collectible figurines have spanned The Avengers, Game of Thrones, Pokemon, Kobe Bryant, Vincent Van Gogh, BTS, Ed Sheeran, and more.
Alexandra Trese, protagonist and paranormal investigator of the hit Filipino comics and Netflix TV series Trese, recently joined this long list. “Early on, a lot of fans started to make their own custom Trese Pop! figures. It's great to finally have the official figure which will provide protection from Aswang… well, maybe it will," Trese writer and co-creator Budjette Tan announced via Filbar’s Facebook page.
Trese, first released as a comics series in 2005, is set in the fictional version of the Philippines where mythological beings live in hiding amongst humans. It follows the life of main character, Alexandra Trese, as she takes on the criminal underworld of supernatural creatures. Its Netflix adaptation aired last June 11, 2021. Alexandra Trese was voiced by Liza Soberano (Filipino) and Shay Mitchell (English).
“This is for the fans who have always wished for their own little Trese figure,“ Trese artist and co-creator Kajo Baldisimo shared. “May it constantly remind them of the magic of the comics.”
The Alexandra Trese Funko Pop! will come in two variants: a regular colored version and a limited edition Black and White Chase figure. It will be available at Filbar stores and their official website starting November 27 at Php 800. The limited edition Black and White Chase figure will be available as part of a six-piece bundle of Trese Pops.
“We’re ecstatic that Funko has collaborated with us to bring this fan-favorite comic character into the Pop! multiverse. Trese fans have been clamoring for a Trese Pop! for many years now,” Jacob Cabochan, co-owner of Filbar’s, the Philippines’ oldest chain of comic and collectibles stores, shared on a Facebook post.
With this, Alexandra Trese joins the lineup of Filipino Pop! collectibles which currently include Jollibee, fellow comics hero Darna, and mythical creatures like the Aswang, White Lady, and Siokoy.
